My Approach

Picture

Psychotherapy

I believe that everyone has a deep inner wisdom and capacity to heal. Life can be overwhelming and there are things that happen along the way that can interfere with our ability to recognize the depth of our potential. Sometimes things happen that shake our sense of who we are in the world. Maybe we never had an opportunity to get to know ourselves in a deep way.

Many of my clients come to therapy because they feel stuck. Something in their life isn’t going well and they are interested in finding another way.  Some of my clients come from abusive or neglectful pasts and find that the impact of their upbringing still haunts them. Others are trying to find their footing in their career or relationships.  I have experience working with adults of all ages and across sexual and gender identity spectrums.

My style is direct, empathic, and collaborative.  As a relational therapist, I believe that healing happens in the context of a relationship. We work together to find the right set of tools for you.  I employ a holistic, creative approach that combines traditional talk therapy with expressive and body-inclusive techniques.

Experiences can live in our bodies long after overwhelming events happen. Expressive and body-inclusive approaches strengthen our ability to regulate emotional and physiological responses to life’s inevitable ups and downs, and to access the things we cannot describe.

I do not believe that people are broken, even when it feels that way. I believe that given our life experinces, we do our best with the tools that we have, to adapt to life. As adults, we get to decide if those adaptations are still working and if not, we get to find another way.

Knowing and accepting ourselves allows us to let go of old, limiting beliefs and to make choices that support a deeply meaningful life.  I take the stance that you are the expert in your life. We will work together to create change that is meaningful to you.

Embodiment Services

Embodiment services are designed to help increase resilience in the face of life’s inevitable ups and downs.

We do this by deepening your connection to your body, regulating stress responses and gently releasing stuck emotions.

It’s sort of like hitting the gym, but for your nervous system.

With each session, we are training your nervous system to be more adaptable and regulated in the face of overwhelming sensations and emotions, paving the way for greater vitality and more ease.

Overtime, our ability to connect to our body can get derailed and cause us to lose contact with our healthiest instincts and inner knowing.

This can happen for a variety of reasons such as societal messages that turn us against our bodies, experiences of losing health, lack of attunement and connection in early relationships and other overwhelming experiences.

Embodiment services can also help with making difficult decisions. If we slow down enough to listen to the subtle messages in our inner world, we can move forward in our life with more clarity.

Embodiment sessions are highly experiential and require a willingness to  step out of your thoughts and slow down enough to listen to what your body needs you to know.

The body’s language is sensations.

Together, we will take our time to listen to what your body needs to express, in order to metabolize what might be stuck. This will help to create the space inside to access your intuition, in order to live in alignment with your values and who you truly are.

Embodiment services do not replace psychotherapy.
  • This service is designed to complement rather than to replace psychotherapy.
  • It is not suitable for individuals in crisis.
  • It is ideal that you work with a therapist to process what emerges during an embodiment session. If you do not have a therapist, you may find one in your area using an online service such as Psychology Today, or by asking a healthcare provider for a referral or by calling your insurance company.  I am also happy to provide you with referrals as best as I am able to.

Embodiment services are informed by Somatic Experiencing. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner credentialed by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute and I am happy to be able to share this work with you.
